Gujarat water infrastructure projects in Valsad

The Gujarat government has approved and initiated several major water infrastructure projects in the Valsad district to enhance irrigation and water security.

On October 10, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel granted administrative approval for a Rs 1,331.30 crore lift irrigation project. This initiative is intended to provide water to 46 tribal villages in the Kaprada and Dharampur talukas by utilizing the Madhuban Reservoir, covering 17,000 hectares of farmland through an extensive pipeline network.

Concurrently, the government has fast-tracked an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project for a barrage on the Daman-Ganga River near Vapi. Valued at approximately Rs 159.50 crore, the barrage will be located near Namdha village, roughly 3 km downstream from the existing Vapi weir. The project features a storage capacity of 5.49 million cubic metres and a catchment area of 2,250.73 sq km. It is expected to support irrigation for 549 hectares across six villages, recharge groundwater, and manage salinity, while also bolstering water availability for industrial and municipal needs in the Vapi region.
