Dan Buettner identifies key beverages for longevity in Blue Zones
Longevity expert Dan Buettner has identified key beverage habits common among residents of ‘Blue Zones’—regions known for high concentrations of centenarians, such as parts of Greece, Italy, and Japan.
Buettner identifies water as the most essential beverage for longevity, noting that residents in these areas typically consume six to seven glasses per day. Proper hydration is linked to healthier aging, improved kidney function, and a lower risk of chronic diseases.
Black coffee is the second recommended beverage. Buettner suggests consuming one to two cups daily, ideally before noon, without significant additions of sugar or cream. The recommendation is based on the presence of antioxidants and polyphenols, which may offer anti-inflammatory benefits and are associated with lower rates of type 2 diabetes and certain neurological conditions.
