Dan Cîmpean warns of rising digital security risks as AI accelerates tech rollout

Dan Cîmpean, director of Romania's National Cybersecurity Directorate (DNSC), warned at the Romania Digital Forum that the pace of new technology development and adoption is unprecedented. He said artificial intelligence and broader digitalisation are delivering economic opportunities but also creating a multitude of security vulnerabilities because products are moving from conception to market in weeks rather than years.

Cîmpean highlighted that the accelerated cycle leaves little time for thorough testing and validation, increasing the likelihood of flaws in software and platforms. He noted that AI not only speeds development but also introduces its own set of risks, affecting both junior developers and overall job security. While urging continued digital transformation, he called for heightened attention to the associated threats.

He also praised Romanian tech firms for their rapid adaptation but criticised their modest public promotion of security solutions, suggesting that greater visibility could enhance the country's cyber‑resilience.
