Seattle Mariners manager Dan Wilson to depart in 2027

Dan Wilson will not return as the manager of the Seattle Mariners for the 2027 season. Wilson, a franchise Hall of Famer, informed players and staff of his decision during a meeting prior to the team’s final regular-season game against the Los Angeles Angels.

The decision follows a disappointing 2026 campaign in which the Mariners finished with a 76-86 record, placing third in the American League West. This performance was a sharp decline from 2025, when the team won the AL West and reached Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto stated that the organization decided a “new direction is best for 2027 and beyond.” Along with Wilson, the team is also replacing several coaching staff members, including bench coach Manny Acta, infield coach Perry Hill, hitting coach Kevin Seitzer, and first base coach Eric Young Jr. However, pitching coach Pete Woodworth and director of pitching strategy Trent Blank are expected to remain.

Key factors in the team’s decline included a significant offensive regression from stars like Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodríguez, inconsistent starting pitching, and bullpen struggles in the second half of the season.
