Spain: Recovery efforts and aid packages follow DANA Adam storm

Following the devastating DANA Adam storm, the Spanish government and the Generalitat Valenciana have initiated recovery measures. The Spanish government plans to declare affected municipalities as zones severely impacted by a Civil Protection emergency to expedite reconstruction and public contracting.

The Generalitat Valenciana has approved an initial aid package of 23.5 million euros. This includes up to 6,000 euros for damages to primary residences and 3,000 euros for non-habitual homes. Additionally, families who lost their primary residence may receive 800 euros monthly for up to twelve months for relocation.

Economic impact is significant, with preliminary estimates from LA UNIÓ placing direct agricultural losses at 21 million euros, affecting approximately 9,000 hectares. Agroseguro estimates that over 7,000 hectares of insured crops in the Valencian Community and Murcia could be affected. In the Alicante province, the Consorcio de Compensación de Seguros had received 847 indemnity requests as of October 21.

Local municipalities are also taking action. Gandia has activated a digital resource for citizens to download official meteorological reports to facilitate insurance claims. In Oliva, the local government has launched an 'Info Dana' web section to manage urgent needs and psychological support services.
