A Louisiana jury has convicted Danette Colbert, 49, of negligent homicide in the death of Adan Manzano, a 27-year-old Telemundo reporter. Colbert was also convicted of racketeering.

Manzano, an anchor based in Kansas City, Missouri, was found dead in a hotel room in Kenner, a suburb of New Orleans, on February 5, shortly before the Super Bowl. An autopsy determined that he died after ingesting a combination of alcohol and the depressant Xanax.

Prosecutors alleged that Colbert and her accomplice, 35-year-old Rickey White, operated a criminal enterprise in the French Quarter. The scheme involved attracting victims with the promise of sex, using drugs to incapacitate them, and then stealing money using their phones and cards. While Colbert was convicted of negligent homicide, which carries a maximum 10-year sentence, White was found not guilty. Both were convicted of racketeering, a charge that carries up to 50 years in Louisiana.
