Dangote Group begins $1.37 billion highway project in Nigeria
The Dangote Group has commenced construction on a 401-kilometer highway in central Nigeria. The project, valued at approximately ₦1.83 trillion ($1.37 billion), involves the reconstruction and dualization of the Lambata-Bida-Mokwa-Makera-Kontagora road.
Financed through the federal government’s tax credit scheme, the project allows the conglomerate to recover costs via tax credits. Unlike traditional asphalt, the highway will be constructed using continuously reinforced concrete pavement, which Works Minister David Umahi stated is more resistant to climate damage and longer-lasting.
The project was approved by Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council on June 29, replacing a previous contract that failed to deliver. Officials noted that the new construction will begin at four locations simultaneously to accelerate progress. Mansur Ahmed, a special adviser to the president of the Dangote Group, stated that the group’s total investment in Nigerian roads now exceeds ₦5 trillion ($3.75 billion).
