Dangote Group highway project in Nigeria
Overview
The Nigerian federal government has launched a ₦1.83 trillion ($1.37 billion) project to reconstruct and dualize the 401-kilometer Lambata-Bida-Mokwa-Makera-Kontagora road in Niger State. The project is being financed by the Dangote Group through the government’s tax-credit scheme, allowing the conglomerate to recover costs via tax credits.
Construction is utilizing continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) rather than traditional asphalt, a method Works Minister David Umahi stated is more durable and resistant to climate damage. The project, which was approved by the Federal Executive Council on June 29 to replace a previous failed contract, involves simultaneous construction at four locations to accelerate progress.
According to Mansur Ahmed, a special adviser to the president of the Dangote Group, the group’s total investment in Nigerian roads has now exceeded ₦5 trillion ($3.75 billion).
