Dangote Group raises Ethiopia fertiliser investment to over $4 billion
President Aliko Dangote of the Dangote Group visited Gode in Ethiopia’s Somali region with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and announced that the company’s investment in the country has been increased from $2.5 billion to more than $4 billion. The expanded programme will add a 110‑kilometre fertilizer pipeline, a 120 MW power plant, a polypropylene packaging facility and a two‑million‑tonne NPK blending plant.
Dangote said, “Africa holds immense agricultural potential, yet continues to grapple with food insecurity due to limited access to fertiliser,” and pledged that the new facilities will boost domestic fertilizer production, lower import dependence and help the continent feed itself and become a net exporter. The Prime Minister called the venture a “trusted partnership” that will create extensive employment, strengthen the industrial value chain and cement Ethiopia’s status as an emerging agro‑industrial hub.
The investment makes Ethiopia the second‑largest recipient of Dangote’s African outlay, representing about nine percent of the group’s planned spending on the continent through 2030.
