Daniel Billings files appeal against sentence for Molly Ticehurst murder

Daniel Billings, the man convicted of murdering childcare worker Molly Ticehurst in Forbes, NSW, has filed a notice of intention to appeal his sentence. The 31-year-old was sentenced in September 2026 to 28 years in prison, with a non-parole period of 20 years, following the 2024 attack.

While the NSW Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) confirmed it would not appeal the sentence, Billings' decision to seek a reduction in his prison term has blindsided the victim's family. Local MP Philip Donato criticized the ODPP's decision not to seek a harsher penalty, calling it a “weak decision” that fails to reflect the severity of the crime.

Billings was on bail at the time of the murder, which occurred after he allegedly sexually assaulted Ticehurst. The attack involved Billings breaking into her home through a window and stabbing her multiple times.
