Daniel Craig purchases historic 250-year-old London pub

Actor Daniel Craig has entered the hospitality industry by becoming co-owner of The Horseshoe, a 250-year-old historic pub located in the Clerkenwell district of London. Craig is partnering with several hospitality professionals, including Soho House founder Nick Jones, Flat Iron founder Charlie Carroll, and Justin O’Shea, the creative director of the Bad Belze beer brand.

The acquisition carries a unique local legend: the pub is reportedly haunted by the ghost of a former hangman named Gilbert. Former landlady Pauline Tucker, who managed the establishment for 36 years, noted that while the spirit is not seen, his presence is often felt in the cellar. Craig addressed the rumors with humor, suggesting they might leave a pint for the ghost.

The new ownership group plans to undertake a year-long renovation to refresh the building while maintaining its traditional character as a community-focused “boozer” rather than a modern gastropub. The project aims to keep the venue accessible to all. This venture is a return to Craig's family roots, as his parents and grandparents were also pub owners.
