Daniel Maldini cleared of drug use following Milan car accident

Daniel Maldini, the 24-year-old Cagliari and Italian national team forward, has been cleared of drug use following a toxicology report. The results from Niguarda Hospital in Milan showed levels “al di sotto del limite di cut off” for substances such as THC and ketamine, contradicting an initial rapid saliva test.

The investigation stems from a car accident in Milan on September 13, where Maldini’s Porsche Carrera collided with another vehicle, resulting in minor injuries to several people. While the drug tests were negative, Maldini tested positive for alcohol at the scene, with readings of 0.91 g/l and 0.89 g/l, which is nearly double the legal limit. As a result, his driving license has been confiscated, and he faces charges for drink-driving.

Maldini’s lawyer, Danilo Buongiorno, expressed satisfaction with the findings, stating they confirm the player has never used drugs. Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini has offered support while advising the player on the responsibilities of driving after consuming alcohol. Despite the incident, Maldini has continued his professional duties, recently scoring for Cagliari.
