Peru and Ecuador hold XVII Binational Cabinet in Lima

Presidents Keiko Fujimori of Peru and Daniel Noboa of Ecuador met in Lima on October 20, 2026, for the XVII Binational Cabinet and a Presidential Meeting. The summit focused on strengthening bilateral relations, specifically regarding border security, trade, and regional integration.

A primary objective of the meeting was to coordinate efforts against transnational organized crime, including drug trafficking, illegal mining, human trafficking, and arms smuggling. Defense ministers from both nations proposed implementing mirror-type military operations to conduct simultaneous actions within their respective territories to combat these threats.

The leaders also addressed economic and infrastructure priorities, such as the 500 kV electrical interconnection project and the promotion of non-oil trade. Additionally, the summit included the formal transfer of the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Andean Community (CAN) from Ecuador to Peru for the 2026-2027 period. The event concluded with the signing of the Lima 2026 Presidential Declaration, establishing a strategic roadmap for future cooperation.
