Daniel Seeram convicted of assaulting former wife
Daniel Seeram, the National Border Patrol Director and former Region Four Chairman, has been convicted of assaulting his former wife, Farzana Hamid, causing actual bodily harm. The conviction was handed down by Magistrate Abigail Gibbs at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court following a trial regarding an incident that occurred on September 11, 2023.
During the proceedings, Hamid testified that she was assaulted in the early morning hours at the Cummings Lodge apartment the couple shared at the time. She reported sustaining injuries to her eye, wrist, arm, thigh, and breast. Hamid also testified that Seeram damaged her mobile phone and the apartment during the altercation. While Seeram denied the allegations, claiming he only pushed Hamid while attempting to leave, the magistrate found his testimony inconsistent and deemed Hamid a credible witness.
Following the conviction, Seeram was remanded to custody at the Sparendaam Police Station. His legal counsel has filed an application with the High Court seeking bail, with a hearing scheduled for October 5. Seeram is set to return to the Magistrate’s Court on November 2, 2026, for sentencing.
