Daniel Seeram transferred to Camp Street prison
The Guyana Prison Service has confirmed that Daniel Seeram, the National Border Patrol Director and former Region Four Chairman, was transferred to the Camp Street penitentiary on a Friday night. This announcement follows several days of public scrutiny and speculation regarding his whereabouts after his conviction.
Seeram was convicted by Magistrate Abigail Gibbs at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court for assault causing actual bodily harm, stemming from a September 2023 domestic violence incident. Following the verdict, the magistrate ordered Seeram remanded to prison pending his sentencing, which is scheduled for November 2.
Seeram’s lead defense counsel, Nigel Hughes, confirmed that his client is serving pre-sentencing detention in accordance with rulings from both the Magistrate’s Court and the High Court. An urgent High Court application for judicial review seeking pre-sentencing bail was dismissed by Judge Joy Persaud Singh, who ruled that the magistrate acted lawfully and within her jurisdiction.
