Daniel Vilela re-elected Governor of Goiás
Daniel Vilela of the MDB has been re-elected Governor of Goiás in the first round of the October 2026 elections. Securing 2,148,218 votes, or 59.17% of valid votes, Vilela's victory marks the return of the MDB to the governorship in the state for the first time since 1994, when his father, Maguito Vilela, held the office.
Vilela's electoral dominance was widespread, as he was the most voted candidate in 238 of the state's 246 municipalities, representing 96.7% of the total. This included major electoral hubs such as Goiânia, Aparecida de Goiânia, and Anápolis. His strongest performance was recorded in northeastern Goiás, with municipalities like Nova Roma and São Domingos yielding over 80% of valid votes.
Vilela assumed the governorship following the resignation of Ronaldo Caiado, who left the position to run for the Presidency of the Republic. Prior to his current role, Vilela served as vice-governor under Caiado and previously held a seat in the Chamber of Deputies.
