This win marks the return of the MDB to the governorship in Goiás for the first time since 1994, when Vilela’s father, Maguito Vilela, held the office. The result ensures the continuity of the political project established by Ronaldo Caiado (PSD), who resigned to run for the Presidency of the Republic. Vilela, who previously served as vice-governor under Caiado, will begin his new mandate on January 6, 2027, alongside vice-governor Luiz do Carmo (PSD).
The runner-up was Senator Wilder Morais (PL), who received approximately 22% of the votes. Other candidates included Luís César Bueno (PT) and Marconi Perillo (PSDB). In his victory speech, Vilela emphasized a commitment to maintaining public security, improving education, and expanding healthcare access.
