Danish motorway expansions face closures and rising costs
Infrastructure projects in Denmark are facing both logistical changes and increased costs. The Danish Road Directorate has announced that a section of Frederiksværksgade will be closed to car traffic starting October 27, 2026, due to work on the Hillerød Motorway extension. This closure, which is expected to last until early 2028, is necessary to replace an existing tunnel with a larger one.
During this period, motorists are advised to use detours via Nordhøjvej, Herredsvejen, and Månepletvej. While access for pedestrians and cyclists will generally remain open, total closures will occur periodically during the demolition of the old tunnel. Additionally, lane closures on the Hillerød Motorway extension are scheduled for evening and night hours between October 12 and October 23.
Separately, the expansion of the 9.5-kilometer road connecting the Holstebro Motorway and the Central Jutland Motorway is projected to be more expensive than originally anticipated. According to the government's 2027 budget proposal, the project will cost an additional 116.6 million DKK to complete.
