Danish parents consider financial aid for student housing

A new YouGov survey commissioned by home a/s reveals that nearly half of parents in Denmark are considering or have considered providing direct financial assistance to their children for housing. This trend is particularly prominent as thousands of students begin their studies and seek independent living arrangements.

The financial support most frequently considered involves upfront costs such as deposits and initial move-in expenses. Specifically, one in three parents considers helping with deposits or security payments, while 24% consider assisting with monthly rent, housing fees, or loans. Additionally, 16% of parents are considering a 'parental purchase' (forældrekøb) of cooperative or owner-occupied housing to assist their children.

Only 13% of surveyed parents stated they are not considering any form of financial help. The study highlights the economic pressure placed on young people entering the housing market, especially in larger student cities where high entry costs can be a significant barrier.
