Danish property tax dispute draws ministerial attention

A property tax dispute in Odsherred Municipality has drawn attention from the Danish Tax Agency, the Ombudsman, and the Minister for Tax and Growth. Jette Vorstrup, a 77-year-old homeowner, is facing a high property valuation based on theoretical land use that contradicts local municipal regulations.

The Danish Tax Agency has valued the land at 3,124,000 DKK, assuming the plot could be subdivided for larger summer houses. However, Odsherred Municipality has stated that such subdivision and larger construction would likely be rejected under current local rules. This discrepancy has resulted in a valuation where the land is worth more than the property and house combined.

Minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt has expressed the need for a solution to ensure homeowners do not face conflicting assessments regarding building possibilities. The Tax Agency is reportedly working on a resolution expected by the end of the year.
