Danish student organizations demand reforms to boost student democracy
Student organizations in Denmark have issued an open letter to Minister of Education Magnus Heunicke, proposing three specific initiatives to strengthen student democracy and engagement in youth education institutions.
The proposals include introducing a student council tax of 200 DKK per student annually to ensure stable funding, requiring at least one full-time student council coordinator at all youth education institutions, and ensuring that participation in democratic activities is not recorded as absence.
Representatives from the Danish Gymnasium Students' Association (DGS), the Vocational Schools' Student Organization (EEO), and the National Association of Business School Students (LH) argue that current frameworks are too weak and inconsistent, which hinders student involvement and institutional development.
