Danna Yanina defense secures federal amparo in feminicide case

A federal judge has admitted an indirect amparo (constitutional protection) filed by the defense of Danna Yanina, who was the first person detained in connection with the feminicide of Dafne Zapata Quintos. The defense, led by attorney Carlos David Robles Figueroa, claims the legal resource will seek her freedom by highlighting fundamental violations committed by authorities during her detention.

The case stems from the death of Dafne Zapata Quintos on July 6 at the Academia Militarizada Doenitz in Ciudad Madero. Robles Figueroa criticized the actions of Tamaulipas authorities, alleging they have failed to acknowledge potential errors in the investigation and noting that the first-instance judge has not yet forwarded the appeal to a second instance.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has intervened by requesting that the Attorney General's Office (FGR), led by Ernestina Godoy, review the case. Following a meeting with the family, Sheinbaum suggested that the detained young woman might also be a victim rather than a participant in the crime.
