Danna Yanina expresses hope for freedom in letter from Altamira detention center

Danna Yanina, an 18-year-old currently held at the Centro de Ejecución de Sanciones (CEDES) in Altamira, has written a handwritten letter to her family and legal team expressing her hope to regain her freedom.

The letter, dated August 7, 2026, includes drawings of her seven lawyers and expresses her gratitude for their support, stating they make her feel “safe and confident.” The message was released by her defense attorney, Carlos David Robles Figueroa.

Yanina is currently in pretrial detention following a judicial ruling on July 28 that linked her to the investigation into the death of adolescent Dafne Zapata Quintos. While she faces accusations related to the case, her defense team maintains her innocence and has challenged the judicial resolution. Two other individuals, Jorge Luis “N” and Estrellita “N”, are also being held at the same facility in connection with the investigation.
