Danny Jordaan re-elected as South African Football Association president

Danny Jordaan has secured a fourth term as president of the South African Football Association (SAFA), defeating Sandile Zungu with a vote of 157 to 82. The victory extends his leadership, which began in 2013, until 2030.

Jordaan endorsed FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s bid for re-election and expressed support for the FIFA Forward Enterprise initiative, which seeks to attract private investment into football businesses. While he supports the principle of outside investment, citing models in England, Spain, and Qatar, he noted a lack of consultation with FIFA members regarding the process.

Defending his leadership against criticisms of financial instability, governance issues, and his ongoing fraud case, Jordaan attributed his continued support to progress in coaching and player development. He highlighted that South Africa’s Under-17, Under-20, and senior men’s teams all reached FIFA World Cups in the same cycle. However, reports indicate ongoing challenges, including funding shortages in some regions and a lack of audited financial statements in others.
