University of Copenhagen hit by repeated cyberattacks
The University of Copenhagen (KU) has been targeted by a new cyberattack, forcing the closure of several administrative systems including Workzone and Nimbu. This follows a major security breach discovered last week, where hackers gained access to a database containing sensitive personal information of approximately 525,000 individuals.
The compromised data includes full names, CPR numbers (civil registration numbers), work and private telephone numbers, and email addresses. Due to the theft of access codes for ID cards, the university had to issue new PIN codes to roughly 20,000 students and employees to secure physical access to critical locations.
Research, Education and Digitalization Minister Christina Egelund described the situation as serious, noting that the attacks on knowledge institutions are a threat to a vital pillar of Danish society. This incident follows similar recent cyberattacks targeting other Danish institutions, including Aarhus University and DTU.
