Danube River water levels drop critically in Bulgaria
Water levels of the Danube River continue to drop critically across its Bulgarian stretch. According to the Executive Agency ‘Danube River Research and Maintenance’, most monitoring stations have reported decreases between 2 and 5 centimeters over the last 24 hours.
Specific measurements show significant lows: Ruse recorded minus 122 centimeters, Oryahovo minus 118 centimeters, Silistra minus 116 centimeters, and Novo Selo minus 86 centimeters. While Ruse and Svishtov saw a symbolic increase of one to two centimeters, the overall hydrological situation remains difficult due to a lack of significant rainfall and upstream inflow.
Due to these low levels, strict navigation restrictions remain in effect for the entire Bulgarian section of the river. The River Supervision Directorate confirmed that while navigation is difficult, no new vessels have run aground in the last 24 hours, and the waterway remains open.
