Danube River water levels hit record lows near Ruse

Water levels in the Bulgarian section of the Danube River continue to decline, reaching critical lows. In Ruse, the water level has dropped to 127 centimeters below the conditional zero mark, matching the record low previously recorded in late August.

Other significant drops have been reported in Svishtov and Silistra. While some areas like Novo Selo and Nikopol saw minor increases of 1 centimeter, the overall trend remains downward. These low levels are creating difficulties for river navigation. A self-propelled vessel recently ran aground near the Romanian town of Corabia, opposite the Bulgarian village of Gigen; authorities noted the incident occurred outside the fairway and did not obstruct other traffic.

The Executive Agency for Research and Maintenance of the Danube River maintains restrictions on vessel navigation across the entire Bulgarian stretch of the river. The situation remains dependent on meteorological conditions and water level changes in the upper reaches of the river.
