Dar es Salaam officials inspect Kilimanjaro dry port

Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila inspected the Kilimanjaro Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Kurasini, Temeke, to assess port operations and infrastructure needs.

To reduce truck congestion in the Dar es Salaam region, Chalamila urged TARURA and TANROADS to develop bypass road plans for port and dry port areas. He emphasized the necessity of adequate parking spaces for trucks to prevent them from waiting along roadsides. The Commissioner also called on the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) to strengthen revenue collection through dry port investments and warned investors against tax evasion.

Dar es Salaam Port Director Abed Gallus stated that the port is expanding its storage capacity, including a new area of approximately 180,000 square meters. Additionally, the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) has regulated approximately 29 ports, including dry ports, to improve transport chain efficiency and mitigate traffic issues.
