Dar es Salaam Port expansion to include Kurasi Logistics Park

Tanzania is expanding the Dar es Salaam Port operations through the Kurasi Logistics Park, which is scheduled to begin functioning as a port extension in November. Transport Minister Prof. Makame Mbarawa stated that the area will serve as a site for cargo inspection, clearance, and other government services to reduce congestion at the main port. To facilitate this, the connecting road will be designated as a Customs Bonded Road, and mobile scanners will be deployed at the park to ensure cargo can be processed without returning to the main port.

Concurrently, the World Bank is evaluating financing for a second phase of the Dar es Salaam Port improvement programme. This follows the first phase, which contributed to increasing annual cargo throughput from 14 million tonnes in 2015/16 to a projected 32.8 million tonnes by 2025/26. During a visit to Tanzania, World Bank Regional Vice President Dr. Ndiamé Diop met with President Samia Suluhu Hassan to discuss strategic investments in infrastructure, including the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), to support regional integration and economic transformation.
