Darfur Governor accuses international actors of blocking Sudanese UN address
Darfur Governor Minni Arko Minnawi has accused unnamed international and regional entities of practicing ‘dirty diplomacy’ to prevent Sudanese leadership from addressing the United Nations General Assembly. These allegations follow the United States' decision to deny a visa to Sudan’s Sovereign Council President, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, preventing his attendance at the recent UN meetings in New York.
Speaking at Khartoum airport upon his return from the United States, Minnawi stated that certain political organizations and groups are attempting to monopolize the representation of the Sudanese people. He clarified that Sudan does not stand against the United States as a nation or administration, but rather against specific individuals within American decision-making institutions who he claims are ‘hiding the truth’ regarding Sudan.
Regarding the ongoing conflict, Minnawi emphasized that the Sudanese delegation did not reject calls to end the war, but instead advocated for an immediate ceasefire and truce to address humanitarian needs, particularly in El Fasher. He also criticized the international community for what he described as a double standard in arms provision, noting that while some nations are permitted advanced weaponry, Sudanese forces are denied conventional arms necessary to protect citizens from genocide and ethnic cleansing by the Rapid Support Forces.
