Dario Durigan rejects claims of inaction in Banco de Brasília crisis

Finance Minister Dario Durigan has rejected accusations of federal inaction regarding the financial crisis at Banco de Brasília (BRB). Durigan described the criticisms as ‘a great injustice and irresponsibility.’

The statements follow a conciliation meeting held at the Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) involving representatives from the Federal District, the Union, BRB, the financial system, and the Public Ministry. While the federal government is not responsible for BRB’s liabilities, Durigan emphasized that the economic team is proposing solutions to maintain essential services in the Federal District.

Due to technical and legal constraints preventing the Union from providing a direct guarantee, the federal government has developed an alternative model to ensure financial viability for debt renegotiation. This process is being coordinated by the Procuradoria-Geral da Fazenda Nacional (PGFN) and the Advocacia-Geral da União (AGU) to provide more secure guarantees to participating private institutions.
