Apple TV’s Dark Matter season 2 expands multiverse narrative

The second season of the Apple TV science fiction series ‘Dark Matter’, based on the novel by Blake Crouch, has expanded its narrative beyond the original source material. The story follows Jason Dessen and his family as they navigate a complex multiverse while attempting to find a safe reality to call home.

In the second episode, titled ‘A Perfect World’, the Dessen family arrives in an alternate Chicago characterized by low technological development. In this reality, the United States never landed on the Moon, leading to a world without microprocessors, computers, or the internet. While the lack of digital surveillance initially seems like an ideal refuge, the family faces new complications, including the discovery that other versions of themselves exist in this world.

The plot intensifies as private investigator Mitchel MacNamara begins to uncover the anomalies surrounding the family and the ‘Box’ used for multidimensional travel. The season explores deeper psychological themes and the potential consequences of mastering the ability to manipulate different realities.
