Data centre operators expand infrastructure amid AI demand

ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) has secured up to $1.75 billion in green financing to develop its flagship data centre campus, STT Johor, located at the Nusa Cemerlang Industrial Park in Malaysia. The facility is designed to support cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and high-performance computing with a planned capacity of up to 166 megawatts of IT load. United Overseas Bank Malaysia served as the sole coordinator and mandated lead arranger, with participation from OCBC Bank Malaysia, Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia, and CIMB Bank Malaysia.

In China, GDS Holdings has doubled its 2026 sales target to 1 gigawatt following record bookings driven by artificial intelligence demand. The company reported 263 megawatts of new bookings in the second quarter. While GDS reported a net profit of RMB 838 million for the April-June period, this was largely attributed to a valuation gain from its former offshore unit, DayOne. The company’s underlying operating business recorded a loss of approximately RMB 122.3 million during the same period.
