Overview

Data centre operators in Malaysia and China are expanding infrastructure to meet rising demand for artificial intelligence and cloud computing. In Malaysia, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) secured up to $1.75 billion in green financing to develop the STT Johor campus at the Nusa Cemerlang Industrial Park, designed for up to 166 megawatts of IT load.

Bitdeer Technologies is significantly scaling its Malaysian presence. Following the full contraction of its 9.5 MW A102 liquid-cooled facility, the company secured a 65.1 MW AI cloud data center facility, known as A202, at its Johor Bahru campus. Expected to be operational by the third quarter of 2027, A202 will utilize NVIDIA’s GB300 NVL72 and Vera Rubin platforms. This expansion brought Bitdeer’s secured global AI Cloud capacity to approximately 206.5 MW, with an active pipeline exceeding $7 billion. CFO Michael G. Potter noted that demand for liquid-cooled, rack-scale AI cloud capacity for 2027 is currently “outpacing available supply.”

Bitdeer further expanded its footprint by securing an additional 67 MW of capacity at a new ‘A901’ campus in Malaysia through a 10-year service agreement. Designed for NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 systems, this facility aims to begin supplying capacity in the first quarter of 2027, with the full 67 MW available by the second quarter of 2027. This move brings Bitdeer’s total secured AI cloud capacity across Malaysia, Norway, and the United States to approximately 273.5 MW, reaching roughly 78% of its 350 MW target for early 2028. The company now estimates its potential contract pipeline for AI cloud capacity exceeds $10 billion.

In China, GDS Holdings doubled its 2026 sales target to 1 gigawatt following record bookings, including 263 megawatts in the second quarter.
