DATALAND AI Museum Announces First Artist Residency in Los Angeles

DATALAND, a downtown Los Angeles museum dedicated to artificial‑intelligence art, opened earlier this year at The Grand. The museum has announced the inaugural AI Artist Residency, selecting four artists—New York‑based Maya Man, computational designer Lucia Rebolino, Los Angeles artist Penny Slinger, and inclusive arts practitioner Jess Starns—from more than 500 applicants. Each resident will receive a $25,000 grant and develop new work in collaboration with Refik Anadol Studio using DATALAND’s Large Nature Model, a generative AI trained exclusively on scientific nature datasets. The residency runs through December and will culminate in a public showcase of immersive installations, talks and discussions on AI’s cultural role.

The museum also features Refik Anadol’s "Machine Dreams: Rainforest" exhibition, on view from 20 June 2026 to 31 January 2027. The show transforms data into a sensory environment of projections, sound, scent and biometric interaction, exploring the intersection of technology, ecology and spectacle.

Both initiatives position DATALAND as a platform where artists, researchers, scientists and technologists converge to explore AI as a new cultural medium.
