Datia Bypoll Security Tightened Ahead of July 30 Vote

Intensive security arrangements have been deployed in Datia district, Madhya Pradesh, ahead of the Assembly by‑poll scheduled for July 30, 2026. The district administration, aided by the Central Reserve Police Force and state police, conducted near‑10‑kilometre flag marches involving around 600 personnel and placed a minimum of four officers at each of the 291 polling stations, with heightened presence at 233 critical and 18 vulnerable booths. A 48‑hour silence period began after campaigning ended on July 28, with strict enforcement of election rules.

The by‑poll was triggered after Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti lost his seat following a conviction in a bank‑fraud case. Major candidates include BJP newcomer Ashutosh Tiwari, whose nomination was filed in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and senior party leaders, and Congress contender Ghanshyam Singh, a former MLA from the neighboring Sewda constituency. Former Home Minister Narottam Mishra, a three‑time representative of Datia, also featured in the campaign. Key issues for voters centre on farmer distress over fertilizer shortages, crop losses, youth unemployment and inadequate infrastructure.
