Datia MLA Ghanshyam Singh’s election challenged in MP High Court
A legal challenge has been filed in the Madhya Pradesh High Court seeking to nullify the election of Congress MLA Ghanshyam Singh from the Datia Assembly constituency. The petition, filed by BJP leader and advocate Deepak Belpatri, alleges that Singh failed to disclose a 1991 criminal case in his election affidavit.
The petitioner claims that while Singh mentioned two criminal cases from the Datia Kotwali police station, he omitted a case involving a protest and road blockade following the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. According to the petition, Singh was among 22 individuals named in an FIR related to that incident.
Ghanshyam Singh, who won the recent by-election by a margin of over 7,000 votes, has dismissed the allegations as a conspiracy by political opponents. He stated that the matter is approximately 35 years old and noted that he has not yet received official communication from the court or police regarding the petition. The High Court is expected to hear the matter next week.
