Daulton Varsho undergoes wrist surgery, ending 2026 season
Houston Astros outfielder Daulton Varsho has undergone left arthroscopic wrist surgery to address a pair of cysts. The procedure will sideline the 30-year-old for the remainder of the 2026 season.
Varsho was not included on the Astros' Wild Card Series roster for their matchup against the Chicago White Sox. The surgery comes at a difficult time for the player, who is set to become a free agent this offseason. Following his trade from the Toronto Blue Jays to Houston at the deadline, Varsho struggled offensively, posting a .172 batting average in 161 plate appearances with the Astros.
The Astros acquired Varsho in exchange for right-hander Spencer Arrighetti. While Varsho's absence impacts the team's outfield depth, his season concluded regardless of the postseason outcome.
