Davao City allocates P3 million aid to quake‑hit LGUs in Mindanao

The Davao City government approved a P3 million cash assistance package for seven local government units in Mindanao that suffered damage from the recent magnitude 7.8 earthquake. The aid will go to General Santos City, the municipality of Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental, and the Sarangani Province towns of Glan, Malapatan and Alabel. City Information Office officer‑in‑charge Harvey Lanticse said the assistance complements earlier relief efforts, which included 5,000 welfare packs, clean‑drinking‑water supplies and a 12‑member Urban Search and Rescue team deployed to Davao Occidental.

A separate tremor struck Davao Occidental on 6 July 2026, registering magnitude 5.8. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) classified it as an aftershock of the earlier 7.8 event and reported no expected damage or significant aftershocks. Intensity‑IV shaking was felt in Sarangani and nearby areas, but the agency indicated that impacts were minimal.
