Dave Marsh, influential rock critic and Springsteen biographer, dies at 76

Dave Marsh, the influential rock critic and biographer, has died at the age of 76 at his home in Connecticut. While a specific cause of death was not officially released, reports indicated he had been suffering from a degenerative brain disease for several years.

Marsh was a prominent voice in music journalism, serving as an early editor for Creem magazine and contributing extensively to Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, and Newsday. He is perhaps best known as one of the most significant chroniclers of Bruce Springsteen, authoring the influential 1979 biography ‘Born to Run’ and several other books on the artist.

Beyond his writing, Marsh was a long-time broadcaster on SiriusXM, where he co-founded E Street Radio and hosted programs such as ‘Kick Out the Jams’ for nearly two decades. His work spanned a wide array of genres, including soul, punk, and Motown.

In addition to his musical career, Marsh was an activist for social justice and healthcare. Following the death of his daughter, Kristen Ann Carr, from sarcoma in 1993, he co-founded the Kristen Ann Carr Fund to support sarcoma research and families affected by the disease.
