Marsh was widely recognized for his work chronicling Bruce Springsteen, including authoring the 1979 biography ‘Born to Run’. He also played a role in introducing critic Jon Landau to Springsteen in the 1970s. In addition to his writing, Marsh was a long-time broadcaster on SiriusXM, where he co-founded E Street Radio and hosted the program ‘Kick Out the Jams’ for nearly two decades. He also shaped music discourse through his newsletter, ‘Rock & Roll Confidential’.

Following his death, SiriusXM’s E Street Radio aired a special live program featuring reflections from various musicians and journalists. Bruce Springsteen participated in the tribute, describing Marsh as a ‘true Rock ’n’ Roll lifer’ and a man of conscience who was ‘soulful, intelligent, heartfelt, opinionated, bruising and often fantastically argumentative.’
