Dave Marsh, influential rock music critic, dies at 76

Music critic, author, and biographer Dave Marsh has died at the age of 76 following a long illness. Marsh, who was born in Pontiac, Michigan, was a prominent figure in rock journalism, having served as an editor at Creem Magazine and contributing to publications such as Rolling Stone and The Village Voice.

In tribute to his legacy, SiriusXM’s E Street Radio aired a special live program featuring reflections from various musicians and journalists. Bruce Springsteen participated in the tribute, describing Marsh as a “true Rock ‘n’ Roll lifer” and a man of conscience who provided lifelong support, including writing the first book about Springsteen, ‘Born To Run’.

Marsh was noted for his influential and often argumentative style of criticism, helping to shape the landscape of rock music discourse through his work and his newsletter, Rock & Roll Confidential.
