DC Comics adopts manga aesthetic for Absolute Batman #25

DC Comics is leaning into global manga influences with its Absolute Universe line. For the upcoming Absolute Batman #25, a new variant cover designed by Clay Mann and Seth Mann (The Mannboyz) alongside artist Nick Dragotta will mimic the style of a Japanese Shonen Jump anthology magazine titled ‘Monthly Batman’. The cover features Japanese text and credits to series creator Scott Snyder.

The Absolute Universe was designed as a streamlined entry point for new readers, stripping iconic characters down to their core essentials by removing traditional support systems. For example, Batman lacks his fortune and Superman lacks the Kents. While the line has seen significant success, recent developments in Absolute Flash #19, which reintroduced the Speed Force, have raised questions regarding whether the universe is maintaining its original premise of stripping away fundamental elements.
