HBO Max orders DCU mockumentary series The People v. Gorilla Grodd
HBO Max and DC Studios have officially greenlit ‘The People v. Gorilla Grodd’, an eight-episode mockumentary series set within the DC Universe. The half-hour comedy follows Daily Planet journalist Jimmy Olsen as he investigates whether the superintelligent ape Gorilla Grodd was unjustly convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City.
Skyler Gisondo will reprise his role as Jimmy Olsen from the 2025 ‘Superman’ film, while Jimmy Tatro will portray Gorilla Grodd. The series features several returning cast members from the film, including Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard.
The project is led by showrunners and executive producers Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, the creative team behind ‘American Vandal’. Yacenda is set to direct all eight episodes. James Gunn and Peter Safran also serve as executive producers. The series is designed to function as an in-universe artifact, mimicking a true-crime documentary produced by the Daily Planet for the citizens of Metropolis.
