Décines-Charpieu shooting leaves one dead and one injured near Lyon

A fatal shooting occurred on Friday evening in the Sully district of Décines-Charpieu, a suburb of Lyon. At approximately 7:30 p.m., near Groupama Stadium, one man was killed by a gunshot to the head, and a second man was seriously injured after being shot in the abdomen. The victim who was shot in the head was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

Authorities report that at least two suspects fled the scene on electric scooters, leaving behind approximately ten shell casings. In response to the violence, Prefect Etienne Guyot deployed CRS reinforcements to secure the neighborhood. An investigation has been opened by the judicial police and the prosecutor's office to determine the motives, which may be linked to local drug trafficking tensions.

This incident follows a period of escalating violence in the same area between April and May, which included shootings and attempted arson targeting specific residences. Local Mayor Laurence Fautra has called on Interior Minister Laurent Nunez for specialized police units to address the ongoing territory disputes among narcotics traffickers.
