Two separate fatal shooting incidents occurred in France in late August and early September 2026.

Following the attack, the suspect, a man in his sixties, reportedly barricaded himself in a building, prompting a large-scale police operation involving approximately 50 gendarmes, three negotiators, and the GIGN unit from Nantes.

Brest prosecutor Stéphane Kellenberger stated that the suspect was discovered in an unconscious and armed state, leading to an emergency airlift to a hospital. The suspect died in the hospital on September 6, 2026, after reportedly turning the weapon on himself. An investigation into murder and attempted murder remains open.
