Deafheaven releases surprise EP ‘At Work In The Fields Of The Bomb’

The San Francisco-based band Deafheaven has released a surprise EP titled ‘At Work In The Fields Of The Bomb’. Eschewing traditional promotional campaigns, the band opted for an immediate release following hints dropped in August.

The EP features three tracks, including ‘Hunter’ and ‘Sorry Laid The Hearth’, separated by an ambient interlude titled ‘Three Princes’. Musically, the release marks a shift toward a heavier, more traditional black metal sound, moving away from the shoegaze elements found in their previous work. The tracks are characterized by intense blastbeats, tremolo riffs, and the prominent use of choral and atmospheric synthesizers, evoking the sound of the second wave of black metal.
