Death of Aurora Valenti Triggers Investigation and Calls for Accountability at Guardia di Finanza School

Aurora Valenti, a 22‑year‑old apprentice inspector, died after falling from the third floor of the Guardia di Finanza’s School of Inspectors and Overseers in Coppito, L'Aquila, Italy. The incident has opened a judicial investigation, with prosecutors considering various hypotheses, including a possible voluntary act.

The tragedy has revived a series of parliamentary interpellations presented by Senator Ilaria Cucchi, urging the Finance Minister to address prior reports of harsh conditions, alleged sleep deprivation, cold showers, limited water access, excessive training demands, and allegations of sexual violence within the barracks. Many of these complaints remain unanswered.

Eliseo Taverna, Secretary General of the officers' union SIAF, called for restraint, emphasizing the presumption of innocence and the need to avoid media trials that could unfairly tarnish the reputation of the entire Guardia di Finanza corps until the investigations conclude.
