Guardia di Finanza school death investigation

On 24‑25 July 2026, 22‑year‑old Aurora Valenti died after falling from a third‑floor window at the Guardia di Finanza School of Inspectors and Supervisors in Coppito, L’Aquila. Local prosecutors opened a judicial inquiry, assigning the case to the State Police and ordering an autopsy while keeping all hypotheses – including a possible voluntary act – under consideration.

The tragedy prompted immediate reactions from municipal leaders in L’Aquila and Alcamo and calls from police and finance‑guard unions for enhanced psychological support for trainees. Parliamentary scrutiny intensified, with Senator Ilaria Cucchi renewing interpellations that highlighted earlier complaints about harsh living conditions, sleep deprivation, limited water, excessive training demands, and alleged sexual violence at the school. Senator Guido Liris entered the debate, criticizing Cucchi’s remarks.

Union leader Eliseo Taverna (SIAF) urged restraint, emphasizing the presumption of innocence and warning against media trials that could damage the reputation of the Guardia di Finanza corps.
