North Macedonia man accused of killing wife in Letevci village

A 51‑year‑old man from the village of Taor, identified as S. G., has been charged by the Skopje Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office with the murder of his 48‑year‑old wife, J. G. The alleged homicide occurred on 25 June 2026 during an episode of domestic violence in the vicinity of the Letevci settlement. According to the prosecutor, the suspect strangled his wife, covered her face, and then concealed the body under branches in a remote forested area.

The victim was reported missing on 26 June. Police and prosecutors conducted a night‑time search of the forest near Letevci and recovered a decomposing body on 27 June, which the prosecutor’s office ordered to be sent for forensic autopsy that confirmed a violent death. The suspect claimed he was guided to the location by a dream. He has been placed in police custody, and three acquaintances—identified as Z. M., G. B. and M. D.—have also been detained.

The prosecutor has submitted a request for pre‑trial detention, citing a risk of flight, possible interference with witnesses, and the likelihood of reoffending. The case is being investigated by the Ministry of Interior and the public prosecutor’s office.
